Editting .bashrc

In case you have just downloaded a package for maven from the internet, you need to add or define the paths below in the .bashrc file in your /home directory, if you don’t do this when you forexample logoff or restart your pc, those settings will be lost but can be run automatically at all those instances when you add the following in your forexample /home/k-joseph/.bashrc
Notice that your paths may change according to where your mvn path and java home

#definitions of maven3
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
export M2_HOME=/home/k-joseph/myProgs/maven/apache-maven-3.0.4
export M2=$M2_HOME/bin
export MAVEN_OPTS=”-Xms256m -Xmx512m”
export PATH=$M2:$PATH
